Hoping Santa will bring money for locking differential!

Been saving up for a while, birthday money, etc. Hope Santa finishes the job and I can get a locking differential for the sport trac. I had a Powertrax in the '93 ranger for years and I loved it. Had to replace the springs in it after about two years when it was acting up a bit. When I...

    Hard cover lubrication

Alright, the hard cover has been in storage all summer. Just put it on for winter and realized the locks, and the locking mechanisms on each corner, all were giving issues when I last used it. What's the proper way to lubricate them? I know you're not supposed to use oil on the locks. What...

truck rolled back while in park

Just pulled in the driveway, put the truck in park, and started to get out. It started rolling backwards. Had to hop into the truck and slam on the brakes. Put the parking brake on, for safety. Anybody experience this, and if so what did you do to stop this? Thanks! --Bob

Christmas tree stand rated to 2000 lbs!

Tired of the cheap plastic tree stand, I pulled out the welder and made a replacement. Actually I made a couple replacements, hopefully they'll sell on ebay and I'll have money for a christmas present for the 'trac this christmas! This one is strong enough to hold up the front end of my sport...

air silencer removed: best gas mileage yet!

A week ago I removed the air silencer from the air box. I also drilled a 1.5 inch hole about 1/2 way down on the fender side of the box just for good measure. My theory was that I wouldn't see or notice any appreciable change to the truck around town, execpt for maybe a slight difference in...

Anybody herculine or bedline the inside of a 'trac?

Maybe it's just bad truckma, but I've had multiple bad experiences involving milk in the truck over the past 2 years. Funny, my son happens to be 3 years old. Gee, no connection there. Since my truck is the morning breakfast location for the kiddies, milk spills aren't going away anytime...

largest tires for the stock rims?

The stock tires are 225x70xr16 which equates to about a 29 inch tall tire about 7.5 inches wide. What's the largest/widest tire I can fit without rubbing? I don't mind a little trimming of stuff. I used to have a ranger with a 6 inch lift and 325x60r15 bfg's on them. Awesome combination...

larger tires on '04 track: speedomtr correction

Time for new tires this fall. Back when I had the ranger, I just changed from one color speedo gear to another (color denoted different number of teeth). If I go with larger tires, is it as simple as that, or do I absolutely have to do the calibration change in the computer using some type of...

    Shocks Agrh!

Just needing to vent. Put on the Rancho RSX shocks, the fronts went on fine. The backs were a horrible. I've done a lot mechanically including rebuilding transmissions, etc. Those **ing shocks in back, whoever designed THAT mounting method should be forced to actually remove shocks for a...

    Rancho rsx shocks

Tires cupped badly, shocks were shot completely. Shopped around and got 4 rancho rsx shocks for the sport trac for $219 free shipping to the door. I had the rs9000's on my ranger which I loved, but couldn't justify them for the trac at this point. Hopefully these will give me a firmer ride...

Leaking hard tonneau and seatbelts that don't retract

Took the truck in this morning for a range of small things. They found the leak for the hard tonneau center hinge is coming from the rubber gasket. Anybody replace this and how much is it? Also, they can't do anything about the seatbelts that don't retract other than teflon lube the...

Chips on edges of doors: what to do?

I've got little chips on the outside edges of the doors, from hitting things when the door opens. Never had this problem with the Ranger, but these doors are both heavier and the spring is stronger than the ranger. What do people do to protect the door edges? Thanks! --Bob

anyone got pics of the HF bed extender?

does anyone have any close-up pictures of the HF bed extender when it's up tall? From what I understand it can either be out behind the vehicle or up tall which would be the height of the roof rack. Is this correct? Thanks! --Bob

Q for those with a hidden hitch: do you have clearance issues?

Hi all, Just put on a hidden hitch on my sport trac this weekend, and wow not much room between the rear shackle and the hitch. Has anybody towed or hauled heavy with the hidden hitch, what kind of clearance is left when those leaf springs are fully flattened out? There can't be much, and...
