Replacing tie rod requires new rack?

Hello. I'm an idiot when it comes to vehicle repairs. I have a mechanic I trust for the most part and he told me that my "front left inner tie rod" is loose/broken/whatever and that it is due to a "hole in the boot". He said he would replace the boot and tie rod but his schedule is just too busy...

    Snow Snow Go Away

I've always loved winter, and I still do. But I must say, as much as I wish we had more snow, I also wish the dirty, gloomy winter weather we have right now would move out and make way for spring. The Trac is filthy and I haven't seen it washed and waxed and sparkling since fall. :(

Ever had your brake pad seperate?

Yeah, that's why I didn't go back to the Ford Dealership. First of all because they've all been dicks everytime we've gone in there. (The Ford Dealership near me just has a bad rap anyway.) and I didn't want them doing anything else. I was told by my mechanic the best I could hope for is a brake...

Ever had your brake pad seperate?

2004 ST with 26k miles on it here. A couple weeks ago we started hearing a horrible squeeling when applying the brakes. Took it to the Ford Dealership, they checked the brakes and said they looked like brand new, very little wear at all. Said it was just a dry spot or something on the pads, not...

what do you think of extended warranty?

I am still debating the extended warranties myself, but one viewpoint I have considered recently is this: If X warranty costs $1200 let's say. Realize then, that basically the warranteur is in this for a profit, so they are essentially saying "On average, you will spend less than $1200 in...

Two things I wish were different

    1. I wish the doors all auto-unlocked when you put it in park or pull the driver door handle, just like they lock when you put it in drive. Owned the Trac for 6 months now, and every day I "still" pull into a parking space, park, get out, go to open the backseat door and it's locked. Always...

    Bed Extender

Man I have to wonder why like 90% of the people selling extenders or tonneaus never have the hardware. What do people do just throw important hardware into the garbage? Or am I the only one that, like, tapes screws and bolts to a desk or whatever to the leg when not in use?

Check out the new Yukon and Tahoe

Gross. Why do all the new vehicles look like melted candlewax?

    Refelx or Sensatrac?

Where is the best place to buy Monroes to get them cheaply and with the buy-one-get-one-free deal?

    Bad shocks and cupping tires

Thank you for all the input, though no one seemed to address the warranty point. Are the shocks being bad at 22k covered under warranty? I agree that maybe different tires and shocks would be a much better ride and stability, but I like "free". If they'll warranty them Ill take the free ones...

    Bad shocks and cupping tires

Bought our 04 ST with 14k on it. Rotated the tires at 15k and 22k. This last rotate the guy at the Fod dealership pointed out some uneven wear on the inside of the [now] front passenger side tire. He attributed it to "the previous owner didn't rotate the tires from 1-14k miles". Being a vehicle...

    Hair on speedometer

Okay, over on the left side of the dash (04' ST) by the gas gauge, a little hair is on the gauge. Probably a dog hair from our Sheltie. Annoying. What do I need to do to get the plastic window in front of the gauges out of the way to get to that hair?

    88000 miles and counting!!!

Hmm, people cheering that they made it to 88k in their ST is worrying me. (Mines 04 with 22k). I still drive my '92 Jeep Cherokee with over 250,000 on it, the only things Ive ever done to it above normal maintenance are replaced the cracked radiator and ignition cylinder when the key wouldnt go...

    ExxonMobil Accused of Price Gouging

Amen to fy10lyny's post. It dissapoints me that such a large majority of Americans are clamoring for the government to cap, adjust and set prices. That's been tried before, it's called Socialism, and it worked awsome for the U.S.S.R. didn't it? America is a capitalistic society. Getting the...

Thinking of Selling the Trac and getting a 300C

By the way if you get the 300c, you HAVE to do this mod... http://www.autotrucktoys.com/300/images/jtevodoors300c.jpg

Thinking of Selling the Trac and getting a 300C

Dunno, apples to oranges. 300c is one of the baddest (ie. best) looking cars on the road today. Then again I've been a huge fan of all of Chyslers styling starting with the inception of the Intrepid. But as much as I love the look of nearly every Chrysler made, after every one of my small circle...

    Flat spot on tire

2004 Trac with 22k miles, bought it at 14k, rotated the tires at 15k and now again at 22k. This time the dealership service guy showed me a flat spot on what is now the front right passenger side tire. He speculates that the tires were never rotated in the first 14k miles before I got it, which...
