Thanks for the input guys. I will certainly keep these in mind if it gets worse. At this point I can only wait and see. If it is any of these mentioned it will surely get worse in the near future. What ever it is its weird that it is so far spaced apart.

About 20 MPG is what I get average, but crossing the vast flats of Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas I was getting over 25 MPG. I used cruise all of the time. Speed limits of 80 and very little traffic. I cruised at about 70. Other places just stayed at the speed limit in no hurry.

I noticed my 2002 would stay on full to long, then when it should show about 1/2 tank it began to drop. Sometimes it would drop to slowly then read about 1/8 tank all of a sudden. Richard is right, mileage is definitely not a gauge for checking brake wear. Doug you didn't specify 2wd or 4wd. If its 2wd you will find it easy and quick to pop wheel off and take a look at everything in there.
