Marsha, FYI: my son has had to replace both sides on his '05 ST XLT 4x4 and the right side twice @ $375 each time @ our local repair shop. @ between 95-97k miles for the 1st replacements, then @ 179k miles replacing the right side again.
I guess if any of our [3] Sport Tracs had come w/one that we'd store them in the most obvious place, in the bed. Like we've left the tonneau covers on each of the Sport Tracs and never have removed to just store. In fact the cover has rarely been off the '01 or '05 and never off the '10 STA, but...
ST Rookie, my son has a 2005 Sport Trac XLT that he bought used in July 2006 w/like 52k miles on it. He now has over 206,000 miles on it now. And it still has the OEM eng. & trans. BTW: it's a 4x4. I saw it @ Easter lunch today and it still looks showroom new. This recomendation comes from a...
Uncle Bob just to give you a ballpark idea of what you're looking @ cost wise if you pay to have a shop do it. For upper & lower thermostat assembly, thermostat, O ring & gasket on my son's '05 ST it was $364.15 and for the exact same repair on my '01 ST is was $339.44 @ a local repair shop...
Shawn ... maybe we aren't comparing apples to apples here, but for my Gen '01 ST I had my spark plugs & wires replaced @ 100k for $366.66. And @ 128k I had the thermostat, housings & o-rings replaced for $339.44. And then @ 132k I had the transmission & converter replaced & the cooler hot...
My son & I have bought replacement radiators from Radiators Plus A/C for our '01 & '05 Sport Tracs. For my '01 it was part # 2309 for $138.03 on 5/15/12 w/2 yr. warranty.
The one or two inch option has to do w/the tray width [top/bottom] that the OEM sits in.
BTW: my local Frod dealer...
Joe Mag they're close to one of a kind or a collector's item ... I just returned in my '10 STA from a trip to Charlotte, NC & Greer, SC & Bristol, VA over the Thanksgiving weekend and didn't see another one the entire trip.
and I still have my '01 ST w/162k that's still showroom new...
swshawaii ... the LTX M/S on the "93 Explorer Sport & '01 & '05 ST's.
EddieS'04 ... I'll have to look it up my service records for you as far as how many years & I don't run my tires to bald!
Just my opinion and everybody's got one, but from many previous experiences ...'93 Explorer Sport, '01 ST, '05 ST and w/getting over 100k miles on some sets that's the tire for me and my ST family.
