Any thoughts on the new Cherokee design?

I'm kind of torn--there are aspects I don't care for, including that it's a bit too 'cute'--but there are things I like too, and I have a feeling the appearance will grow on me.

Which is about how I felt about the Sport Trac when it first came out...

My thoughts on a new Cherokee for me is definitely "NO", and I have not given much thought to a new Cherokee for you.

I heard they are good vehicles, but never owned one. I personally do not care for their styling that much, and I don't venture off road, so I don't really have a need for one.

...Rich

It's nothing like the originals which would be fine if they called it something other than a cherokee. I kind of see what they are doing since they are keeping the Grand Cherokee as their flagship model if you will and offering this as the step down. I think they missed only in name..

My REAL Cherokee :soap:

It's going to have the same arguments that the new Explorer has regarding it's departure from its roots.

That said, I don't like the looks, at all. Didn't get past that point to check out any other features.

The front end is fugly IMO it looks like they squased the trademark vertical grill bars and sandwiched that on top of a cars front end (almost like there is to front ends).

The headlights is what makes it ugly. The rest of the nose, I could live with.

I could design a better projector bucket than that......

i have very good thoughts of mine. it certainly is not an off-road jeep, but that is ok with me.

the new gen GC is much better with fine lux, tech & style IMO.

i believe it was SUV of the year in 12 and the new GC has the 8 speed auto and a more aggressive style.

i would def check them out as it was enough for me to change from my beloved toy 4runner.

Gary you have to remember that the Grand Cherokee is totally different than the new Cherokee. The new Cherokee is built on the Dart platform (from what I've read at least) they are totally different vehicles.

Gavin, I'd imagine not very far in either case.. The gen 1 should have more flex than the IFS of the gen 2 though, but I've never seen either on the ramp so it's all speculation.

I've had mine on an articulation ramp (along with Patrick) but didn't take measurements and neither of us is stock. Did quite well considering IFS and I believe the major limiting factor was actually traction and not having lockers. I do have a picture on a rock instead, though.

Yea JD, realized after that bill was referring to the new "Cherokee" that is replacing the current Liberty.

As you know 2 different vehicles. I would shy away from the new Cherokee as if it follows the Liberty there are other small SUV's that I would look at first.

From a small capable offroad standpoint I'm sure it's pretty good when compared to others in the same class, but to compare to other Jeeps especially with the Cherokee name it isn't going to hold up to what purists want.
