Hello All,

I'm a new member but, I've been watching from afar.

So, my 01 Trac (with 172K) has a clicking noise coming from behind the ashtray. The noise sounds like a relay making and breaking contact. It happens when I accelerate or slow down but, mostly, during acceleration. I've been trying to map out whether there's a pattern like, @ 10mph or from dead stop to... But, it doesn't seem repeatable to that degree. However, it always does it.

Not sure how long it's been doing this. I've been trying to reduce as much noise around me to preserve my hearing for my job ie, radio low, windows up, fan no higher than 3. That's when I started noticing it.

I thought it was the brake light switch but the clicking sound is well after the brake peddle is up. I've been noticing a slight hesitation when I first "hit the gas". Was thinking the IAC valve might need replaced again. Was wondering if there's a circuit driven from the PCM. But, I'm not sure where the PCM is located. Suspect near that area. That's where it is in the Escort.

Thanks,

JC

Additional follow up on regards to the TSB listed above.

Some have found that if they wire tie the cables where they come through the wall it also eliminates the clicking noise. Pull them in the direction of the drivers door and secure them. Does not have to be much, just enough to stop movement.

Thanks guys. I never would have found the TSB.

As soon as it stops raining here in the Mid Atlantic Region next month... I'm gonna take a look at that.
