So i was driving down the road yesterday... and my truck revved up and then died...





had it towed to the dealer today and they tried to start it...

made a whining noise with the pulleys and such turning



said the timing chain may have broken cuz they think there is no compression...

Was gonna say, Yank the engine, Replace all the chains, and go from there.....



Can any one confirm if the st is a free wheeling motor ??? Allways wondered that....



But from the rash of broken chains i am thinking it is not..

No way a modular motor will fit in the ST without serious modifications and real problems if you're in a front end wreck. A 5.0 will fit

hopefully i wont have to swap out a motor tho...



hopefully the timing chain didnt mess up anything else...



gah... 1000 to just determine which timing chain it is... and if it messed up anything else...

Welcome to the club, Reaper. The primary chain on my '04 failed at 79k. I'm getting a rebuilt engine installed since there is still a good amount of value left in the truck. The shop is dragging things out a bit, though. They've had it for 3 weeks now.

What's up with the failing timing chains? What's causing them to fail?

They were common problems as well as the rearends in the '00-'04 Explorers, my mothers' Explorer went through three sets of timing chains before the dealer just put a brand new motor in it. It also went through 2 rearends in the 3 1/2 years she owned it and she is easy on her trucks, just got a turd I geuss.

hey guys so my truck is getting heart surgery...



they are taking out the motor and checking things out to see which chain got destroyed and if anything else is damaged aswell...



i will know tomorrow which one and what damages there are.



hopefully nothing else got screwed up... :cry:

hey i was actually trying to post but my cpu was being complicated...





they have to order a whole new motor... that the engine was dead and just free spinning...



new motor will cost me 4800 installed :cry:



on a good note, i get to go through the fun of reinstalling mods again lol
