Brian, That site is for the older style 5.0 mustang.

Yes you will need a shorter belt....

Trtex, Since the engine idle rpm will not change, the computer has no way of telling that the accessories are spinning slower, there for it should not effect any thing...

I will keep everyone posted

I got it from ASP

www.aspracing.com

You have to call the number on the website

BUT WAITE to order..... Wayne Foy may be able to get them for a discount to the members here..

I find it interesting it actually weighs more than the stock pulley though...

I know on my VW Jetta they claim every pound you can remove from the crank = 8 HP. The pulley kit for that car claims most of the power addition from the lightweight of the new pulley, and a little bit from the underdrive.

This pulley is over an inch smaller in diameter, but with the balancer being attached to the pulley (and no way to seperate it) this is the safest way to underdrive the 4.0L.

Wayne talked about safety when uder driving accessories. Interesting point.

As many of you know, I am into Escort GT's. The 1991 to 1996 Escort GT's are powered by a Mazda 1.8L DOHC engine with 127 HP. That same engine also came in the Mazda Protege, Mercury Tracer LTS, Mazda Miata, and early Kia Sephia models.

The Miata guys and some Escort guys are getting 400+ HP out of those engines. Here is where it gets interesting.

Unorthodox Racing (UR) makes an underdrive pulley (UDP) that weighs 3 lbs less then the stock pully, and is only about 10% underdrive. Thier claim to fame is that the power is from the lighter mass and not the actual underdriving.

Miata owners that have an UR UDP and a turbocharger have oil pumps that fail causing catastrophic engine failure.

The reason? The UR UDP does not have the harmonic balancer where the OE pulley does.

What does that mean to us? As Wayne mentioned, it is safer with a harmonic balancer then without. Don't be worried about it being heavier. It is for our own engine's safety.

Tom

The Unorthodox Racing pully for my Jetta weighs about 2.5lbs lighter than the stock pulley, with no balancer.

The one I purchased, from Nuspeed, does have the balancer, but still manages to lightweight the factory pully by just over a pound.

And as you stated, the performance claim to fame is the weight reduction on the crank, the 15% underdrive is just bonus. The Nuspeed advertised specs show about a 12HP increase, they attribute 8-9 of it to crank weight reduction, and 3-4 to the 15% underdrive.

I was just surprised to see the weight of the ST pulley to be less than the aftermarket ASPRacing part, but they are showing a power increase, and probably less vibration due to smaller diameter, so I am not going to nitpick.

By the thickness of the inside dia of the pulley, you may be able to machine out some of the inside metal, but I would not recommend this...

SAT INSTALL DATE !!!!!!

Ok, we have 2 on site guys, and 1 off site that have commited. We need 3 more to make this happen. Cmon guys, you have been wanting power parts, here is one in your lap for a GREAT price.

Some GM's have severe PS problems with UP's.

I'll wait until someone installs one on our application before commiting to the feeding frenzy.

Question about a warranty situation.

I already have the mac intake, exhaust, etc and I don't care if those parts are not covered under a warranty. What would happen if I use this pulley and have an engine problem. Would this fall under the category that I just bought a replacement, and will not affect the warranty. Or will they say that because it is smaller I should have gone oem and the pulley caused the problems.

I know it is hard to exactly know about warranty stuff but some info would be great.

George

George, First the idiopts at ford would have to realize it is not the factory pulley...

Second, thew only thing they could try is if you had an overheating issue... But at a 20% underdrive, it would be like having a 4.10 rear and installing a 3.73 rear... It would make no differance, especially when driving..

Come over Sat and see for your self...;)

I expect some dyno graphs by Sunday afternoon, Todd. And I really want to see some of your 1/4 times, so get your a$$ to the track...

As far as problems, I have sold the products from this company for many years, and have their pulley set on my 650hp F150. I have NEVER, EVER, even in 5 years of racing, with also having the truck as a daily driver, had any issues. And I am not the lightest footed driver either, just ask Jeff about following me through Atlanta Traffic

As far as UDPs in particular, you wont have to worry about overheating issues with the clutch driven fan. The Clutch will still respond to the engine bay heat and act accordingly.

Wayne,

I have no idea what you are talking about, but have a pretty good clue. Maybe if everyone understood what you are refering to, you would get three more people to comit to what you are talking about.

I am signed up for the group buy. Hopefully a few more will step up to the plate. It is a little sooner then I wanted, but you buy the deals where they are there.

If only I could get a good deal on that coil over suspension I keep eyeing. I also need a clutch.
