It's pretty well known that the driveline in the ST is the weak link. I'd like to do a supercharger in the next few years. I'm having issues deciding on how much to spend on what supercharger I buy. Some of them will give me just enough power and some have a potential that is much higher than the driveline in my STA can handle.
So, I'm researching what is involved in swapping out the transmission. If that is a possibility, I may consider a built bottom end and a more powerful supercharger. If I can't get it done, I'm not wasting money on a part that I'm only going to utilize 70% of.
What is involved with swapping out a transmission?
There is NOTHING out there to build up the Gen2 ST 6R trans. I'm thinking about swapping the 6R60 out of my Gen2 STA and installing a built tran from another vehicle. Maybe something with 4 or 5 speeds.
I'm assuming it would have to be compatible with the engine somehow?
I'm assuming that I will need the TCM with it...or can I use the STA's TCM and change it with an SCT?
It has to be an automatic tran.
