99 escort rear seat removal

I'm hoping someone here can help me out .I've tried 4 escort forums but it could be days if they post anything at all. I need to remove the rear seat in my sons 99 merc. Tracer.I can see the plastic clips that the metal latches go into and they have 2 white squares in. For the life of me I cannot get them to release the latches.I know it has got to be simple but I cannot get them to release. Any help would be appreciated.

If it were a 1991 to 1996, I would know everything about those models. I have the manual, but I need to leave for work. I can check it when I get home.

isn't the button right next to the head rests ???? Or is that to fold it ???



Any way the older fords you actually had to sit in the seat and push down and yank the metal rod out of the clip...
