11/23/2005 10:27 PM | Staff Report

Legend Business Consultancy and Project Development, is bringing Snow Dome — an indoor Alpine Ski Resort — to Dubai in partnership with Ski-Trac International of Australia.

Snow Dome's winter wonderland will feature the world's longest ski run housed in the worlds largest free standing Dome and will allow year-round skiing in real snow for up to 1,200 skiers at any one time.

Riadh Abbas, managing director, Legend, said: "Snow Dome adds a first and unique tourist attraction to Dubai which is fast becoming the leisure capital of the Middle East. Ski-Trac's expertise in building artificial winter landscapes is unrivalled and we are proud to bring the best in artificial snow technology to Dubai. Snow Dome will offer something for everyone."

Snow Dome's unique winter experience will be themed as a real-life Alpine destination with snow-capped mountains and a unique blue-sky ceiling. In addition the resort will feature a five star hotel, shopping mall, Artic zoo, glacier park, sports centres and speciality shops. The 'Antarctic Experience' within Snow Dome will provide visitors a glimpse of the Antarctic landscape complete with a live penguin rookery. Several different ski slopes will cater to all levels of skiers - from beginners to experts. For non-skiers, alternative entertainment comes in the form of gondola rides, bobsleds, ice-skating canals, Olympic size ice hockey area. toboggan area or even snowball fights.

The Dome will house a giant snow deck measuring upto 175 metres in diameter that curves its way upwards around a 300-metre slope as it rotates. The down-hill run varies in length from 380 metres to 20km and more depending on the speed of the moving slope. During a one hour cycle, the speed of the deck varies between 5-25kph.

An artificial mountain range covers the Ski-Trac patented cold-room where snow is manufactured using compressed air and water snow-guns. The snow deck continuously passes in and out of this snow chamber where temperatures go down to minus 15 degrees Celsius. The unique two-chamber ecosystem solves problems associated with indoor snow making and allows for daily top-ups of fresh powder snow. The Ski-Trac technology was designed and develo

They better enjoy the riches while it lasts. Once their oil runs dry, they'll be back to a nomadic lifestyle if they don't invest wisely.

Ya know.. The funny thing is I just saw that damn thing and was IN IT about 6 months ago!! lol... It's kinda cool inside.. (bad joke.. lol..) And although I may sound messed up.. I don't agree about oil money going to pay for that.. Most of the money from the sheeks are family money passed down from the wealth of generations.. Not oil riches.. Besides, not all arabic people are the oil happy type.. Dubai is not an oil rich country.. But it is part of the UAE, like Saudi.. (A VERY oil rich country...) So in part, they are kinda in the same family but not...

None of the middle east is going to run out of oil.

I have no problem with that. At the second picture, I thought it was a joke. it looks like a male body part. :D

The crooks aren't only OPEC. Look at the profits of ExxonMobile to see who is giving who the shaft.

Did you know that the US gets more oil from Canada then all of the Middle East combined?

I don't see a problem with it really. We still have some pretty cheap gas prices for an industrialized country. Dubai is quickly becoming one of the richest and most exclusive cities in the world, and it's not all because of "oil money". Besides, what do you want them to do with the money, spend it on their military? Or float it around different bank accounts? Let them spend it, just so long as they let us come and enjoy it along with them.

Exxon/Mobil is a US company. Do you think the Middle Easterners resent us making more profit than any company ever, by reselling resources pumped from under their soil?

[sarcasm

ExxonMobil made a lower profit margin this year than the year before. Those evil bastards are making LESS on each dollar of sales than before they started GOUGING us!! Such a diabolical plan!!!!

[/sarcasm

Question:

What was the "profit" that the US government made off the sales of ExxonMobile? If you said 2x the profits of EM, you'd be wrong.

ExxonMobil PROFITTED roughly $.25 per gallon. The government (state, local, federal combined) collected ATLEAST $.36/gallon and in some places more than $.50/gallon. That's just in useage tax.

ExxonMobil then paid well over 30% in income tax

So exactly who's the profitteer in all this??

RShek - you are on a roll lately

Don't forget all the payroll, property and excise taxes from EM. Then you could add in the taxes paid by their employees on the income and goods/services/propoerty they buy with that income and then the taxes paid by all the people who provide thsoe employees goods and services and the economic growth by the investments all of those people make and the taxes paid by the new and stronger businesses because of that investments and ..... sorry I have to stop before I get dizzy.

Oh, and the politicians (on all levels) NEVER have enough money. EVER!
