Soooo....I went to check my air filter, did it right after I bought it a few months ago. When I opened it up there was a bunch of dried weeds in the bottom of the air box! Almost looked like something might have been trying to build a nest???? Anyway I started looking and this is what I came across!?

So, do I put screen over the holes so that I don't end up with a bunch of stuff in there or do I invest in a new box?

It seems, that if the holes are covered with screen, warm air will be taken in; not ideal.

Maybe cover the holes with something solid, perhaps PVC or some such.

Should be common and cheap at salvage yards. Or as Yardsale says, ABS sheet and cement.

Just replace with a used one from a member here or junk yard.

OR install an aftermarket intake.

Go get a used air box from a 95-01 Explorer, 97-01 Mountaineer, 95-03 Explorer Sport 2door. They use the same box as the 01-05 Sport Trac. Shouldn't be more then $20.

I wish the "holes in your airbox" fad had never caught on.:banghead:
