What size muffler

Im in the process of ordering a flowmaster DF 40 series muffler. Does it matter what size i get...ie: 2.5" or 2.25". And what ever size diameter I get on the muffler, I need to get the same for the tips right?

When I got mine, I just had them cut out the old and weld in the new DF50. I retained my stock SS exhaust, since I keep it clean and shiny (at least the part you can see). I would assume you would need to measure your exhaust to determine the size, but it most likely is 2.25? Whatever shop you have do the welding of the muffler should be able to provide the tips.
