The Michelin that came on my '08 did last at all! I use Tire Rack.com but am leery of purchasing Michelin's again!

Many will never sway from the Michelin LTX M/S or M/S2 with 70K Limited Warranty.

Also many postitive reviews of specific General Tire models.

Check TireRack.com for comprehensive info and reviews. GL

A lot of us had terrible service from our michelin cross-terrains that came from Ford. They wore out so quickly compared to other michelin cross-terrains, it is almost certain that these OEM tires were much lower quality than retail michelins. However, like you, I was once-bitten and will not use Michelins again.

BF Goodrich Long Trail Radial T/A has been working well for me. You can get it in stock sizes and I have had mine for about 20,000 miles and they have well over half their tread remaining. Very quiet, handle great, good in snow and ice, and no hydroplaning, etc. They don't leak air- I hardly ever have to add any air to them except for when the weather cools down.

I only got 29k out of the OE Goodyears too. I got Firestone Destination A/T's, only 6000 miles on them but they look like new so far. Much better in snow too.

TIre Rack doesn't have that A/T just LE in the 235/65/18.

This tire size is difficult to find tires for that I like and think would last longer than 30,000!

Sharon, welcome first off. Take a look at the Toyo tires, I really like mine(Proxes STII). They handle all weather conditions well, including snow, and they have a good tread life. 20,000 miles and the tread is a little worn. Good luck, BC :welcome:

+1 for Les suggestion. Opens up your options big time.

I'm with Les...you should think about changing sizes to open your options. I currently have Firestone Destination AT's with about 40k miles on them. They've served me well, and I'm just now begining to think about preparing to buy a new set in the coming 6-8 months. I've also had Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos, which also served me well. Great traction, good treadlife, and I like the look of them.

Good hunting, and welcome to the club. :eek:nline:

Ok, you all. A tire person says you can not change the original tire size on the AWD Trac. It will eventually screw up the transmission. I am probably going with Yokohoma Parada Spec X. Thanks for all of the advice.

Sharon

Another point this tire specialist told me was the with AWD the tires when rotated needed to have the back move to the front of same side and the front tires cross over to opposite side to back.

And to continue this pattern each time. That is the first I had heard of this. It is apparently crucial for AWD rotation!

your tire person needs to go back to school as he does not have a clue what he is talking about. Changing tire size will not harm the transmission of transfer case in any way, shape or form. The transmisison is NEVER affected by tire size. The transfer case on the other hand can be affected by tire size on an AWD vehicle ONLY IF THE 4 TIRES ON THE VEHICLE ARE OF A DIFFERENT SIZE. For instance the front tires are one size and the rear tires are another size or one of the tires is a different size than the others.

As long as all 4 tires are the same size it doesn't matter how much bigger or smaller they are when compared to the stock ones no damage will occur to the transmission or transfer case.

Your "tire person" also has his rotation sequence confused. The front tires get moved to the rear on the same side and the rear tires get crossed to the front...it's like that on all vehicles with radial tires....you need a new tire person cause this one only thinks he knows what is going on but you eventually pay the ultimate prce for his misdirection.

What model of Sport Trac do you have? An XLT, Limited, or Adrenalin? The reason I ask is that the Adrenalin is the only model on which AWD was an option in 2008. XLT and Limited are 4WD.
