Purchased a Honda Civic Si today to replace the ST (being sold to out of state family friends). All in all, not a bad vehicle ('01 Job 2) but it was definitely a love/hate relationship. Interestingly, I don't know if this site helped this perception or hurt it. You guys (and gals) definitely made life easier by pointing out simple but significant issues (transmission dipstick rubbing on hose, infamous cracked elbow, tailgate squeak, bad shocks, on and on), but at the same time brought out issues that made me wonder if I would be next to experience the same. I just realized that after 15 years of trucks I was ready for something new (like NelsonOKC and his Mazda). Plan is to turn the Honda over to my daughter in a couple of years (15 y/o in December) and I can move on to something different. Thanks to all and best wishes to those who keep on Tracin'.

I'm with you Teasip, except I have only owned my trac a year. I enjoyed it for a while, but have quickly come to be bored of the truck. It has its up and downs like you said. Lately, little things have started happening (gauge lights going out, inertia switch, left air vent wont stay open, rear right window rattles as it goes down, left inside door feels like i'm going to rip it off, etc, etc.). They aren't a big deal, but very annoying. I am currently in the market for a different vehicle. Anyway, back on topic...best of luck with the Si!

teasip,

good choice on your honda and have fun with the si. we all need a change once in a while.

sintec,

i have had 3 trac's and cannot agree with you that they are boring. on a regular basis , people were very interested in the trac and complimented it's appearance. i have had issue's (tranny)with a my 04, but it was repaired under warranty. other than that not many major complaints.. but as i said, we all need a change. :)

I can still remember the first time I saw one. In a local Wal-Mart parking lot parked length wise, and I remember walking by thinking it was awful unique looking and really liking it. Oh well, time to drag my bottom on the pavement, or so it will seem compared to sitting up high.

I agree with gary s. on both accounts, but we went up from a '91 Honda Civic to our '01 job 2 ST, and are still not bored with it as well as get compliments when it is all shined up. The Civic just cramped our style and needed more room. We plan on keeping our ST for a minimum of 10 yrs., and would like to add a Gen 2 ST to our stable. :D

I like the new Hondas. I looked at them before I bought the Mazda, and just thought the price was too high though. I think the Mazda 3 gives the best bang for the buck, but I am sure the Honda will hold it's value better.

I loved my ST, but the fuel bill was killing me. I can't imagine how much it would cost me here with gas prices around $7/gal. I think I am lucky I traded just before finding out I was being sent to Poland.

Enjoy your new car. It sounds like you got good use of your ST.

Enjoy your Honda.

I've had my ST 07 Limited for 1 year and I am really sorry I bought it. ( fuel consumption and lot of problems) wish I had an F150.

Good luck and enjoy some quality.

Well,

I will never go back to a car for my daily driver, I just use the versatility of the ST too much to get rid of it.

Good luck with your new choice and feel free to stop buy when you can...

The feeling you get pulling in to a parking lot and people are looking at the truck, and when you come out of a store and there are people looking at it, To me thats a great feeling...

I only had that with my mustang but it was normally punk kids in their Honda wanting to race...

ToddZ,

I agree. I have an Escort sitting in my driveway that gets 30+ MPG. It will sit while I drive my Trac. Having room to streach out, no headlights on the back of my head, and somer metal around me makes driving the Trac worthwhile.

To me, there is no reason to drive a car, a small one at that.

I would say good luck and you will need it. A close friend has one and were constantly in the dealer. New brakes and a blown gear box/trans and 11,000 miles. The other issue is weeping cracks around the header. He's just had that done at 10K. Also ask for the latest ECU update will fix some issues with hesitation and surges. And skip 3rd gear when cold. You will need to be a weightlifter to force the shifter into 3rd when cold. He's putting a for sale tag on it this weekend. Looking at purchased a Mazda 3, Subaru WRX, or an SVT Focus.

I don't want to dog it, but the issues he was having were fustrating. Good luck!

Here's the online petition on many honda si fourms on the transmission issues:

Believe me if I didn't need a pick-up truck I would get me a Civic or something similar. Not because I don't love my Trac but because of the crappy gas mileage. Still it's no worse then any other truck and if you bought an ST and never used the bed then you made a poor decision in the first place.

Sorry to hear your Teasip. I personally love my Trac. One major reason is because it isn't the Norm. It's a crossbreed which makes it diffrent and is why it stands out. However, if I wasn't totally dependant on having a Bed, like TomT, to store valuables and equipment then I'd be driving a Crown Vic or a Marauder right now... I've always loved big comfy cars with a powerful v-8 under the hood...

Not a good example. I think almost anyone would let an escort sit in a driveway, if they had something decent to drive. Actually if I owned one, I would park it in from of my neighbors house until I could unload it.

Actually, I am selling my 1996 Escort GT and buying a 1991 Escort GT. The 1991 Escort has 350,000 miles on it. Yes, that is right 350,000 miles. Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand miles on it. Original engine, tranny, etc.

Nelson, shall I remind you that you drove a Toyota Echo.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Living on the gulf coast of texas. Idont care about gpm and gas prices. With our monsoons and storms, Iam staying high off the ground. Tried to get the wife to replace her flood totaled Escape with a Trac. She is only 5' and wanted another Escape.:D;)

I had a infinity G20 before the trac until a UPS truck slid sideways coming at me when it was snowing. Totaled the infinity. It was a nice car and kept me alive but I needed something bigger. Mine was a used 2001 in Dec '03 and was up on a display in the dealer's lot. It caught my eye and I love everything about it. That was 75k miles ago.

Enjoy your new ride but you will miss the trac . . . . .
