So, the time is about here to get some new tires for the 2008 STA.

In keeping the stock 20x8" wheels, I am looking at new tires. Something with a bit more bite than the stock (crap) Pirelli Scorpions.

Can anyone recommend any of these? I want to go a little bit bigger, but the width of the wheel is limiting me...

I almost think that a 275/55 is way too big, but I really love the Fortera Tires.

Goodyear Fortera TripleTred -- http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp?make=Goodyear&model=Fortera+TripleTred

275/55/20 -- $209.00

Yokohama Parada Spec-X -- http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp?make=Yokohama&model=Parada+Spec-X

275/55/20 -- $134.00

OEM 255/50/20 -- $151.00

*275/45/20 -- $132.00

Goodyear Fortera SL -- http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp?make=Goodyear&model=Fortera+SL+Edition

275/45/20 -- $119.00

a 255/50 has a sidewall of 5", a 275/55 has one of 6".

a 255/50 has a diameter of 30", a 275/55 has one of 31.9".

a 255/20 has 671 revolutions per mile. a 275/55 has 632rpm.

When I am doing 60mph, I'll actually be going 63.7mph with the larger tires. Does anyone think those are too big? The recommended width of the wheel to be mounted on is from 7.5"-9.5", so we make it by 0.5".

Opinions?

Thanks for the info, but the dimensions are totally different between '04 and my '08, right?! I test fit some 16x8 wheels that I had on my 2004 ST and they wouldn't clear the brakes...

Do I need to go out there with a different hat on and try it again? lol.

Swoop,

I deleted my reply. I realized it was wrong year.

Personally, I'd stay away from the Forteras. I had a set of GY Fortera Silent Armors on my Trac, and one of them split a sidewall at about 32,000 miles. I replaced them with the Michelin LTX M&S, and they've been great. Another member here put the Yoko Paradas on his Gen 2 STA. I'd check out those, or a Michelin tire.

As for the difference in speed with a larger tire, that can be corrected with an XCal 3 & tunes.

Really?! I have heard nothing but amazing things about them! My Dad had a set and knows a few others that have literally countless miles on them. Hmm... I will definitely do my homework, but yeah. Thanks for that info!

What about the larger size? Everything'll clear, right?

Yo Swoop, I currently run 275/45-20 on my '08. This is the same rolling diameter as stock so no change to speedo readings. I use Toyo Proxes STll on 20'x8.5" Boss 327 rims. The tires have performed flawlessly so far, but I am gonna put the stock 18" wheels and tires back on for the winter. Salt and chrome don't mix well! Check my library to see my truck. Good luck, Bob ;)
