P0171 and P0174 on a Gen2 V8

I am getting these codes. The check engine light is on sporadically. I have a K & N CAI. I did a search and everything is about Gen 1's.



Any ideas for a Gen 2?

Vaccum leak ( as simple as fuel/oil cap sealed?)

Dirty MAF...possible (most likely from overoiled K&N)

Bad DPFE...impossible

Vacuum leak...popssible



Double check the installation of your K&N and the amount of oil you are using on the filter, chances are that you are going to find your problem there.

What is the best way to clean the MAF?

Where is the most likely vacuum leak? All hoses seemed in good shape.

The best way I know of to find a vacuum leak is to spray carburetor cleaner (ether) around the vacuum lines you suspect and listen for a change in engine tone... If the vapor from the cleaner is sucked in a leak it will cause the the engine to rev up a little as the highly combustible vapor is burned. Use caution though because the vapor is highly flammable so no sparks, smoking, ect.

Tim, go to your local auto parts store and they sell a special spray cleaner for MAF sensors.
