My wife was in the Olld Guard...she did not do tomb duty...but a salute is definitely given to those that choose to do that. They are out there in all types of weather.
My cousins son is stationed in DC. He is with the Presidential band and is second in command of Presidential Funerals. He told us there are times when weather is so bad that Thee Guards of the Unknown are told they do not have to be there. Not once have they not served. They say it is not an option, but a must, a pleasure to serve their duty and they will be there no matter what!
