I went for a ride to town today and stopped at the used car dealear where I bought my Trac.(they have a 2005 on the lot i wanted to look at, but it was 4x2 so I wasant intrested). When I got bact in my Trac it wouldn't start. I checked battery voltage and connections, all good. Then when I tried start it again I noticed the theft light flashing quickly. I called a few guys around here that know Fords and they said PATS system and only Dealership can work on it. Had it towed to local Ford dealership and they called back and left a message saying PATS Tranceiver was bad $220.00 total. I have to call in the morning and let them know what to do. So the question is does this price sound right. I can't find one online to compare prices. Sorry about the long post. Any help will be appreciated.

FIRST,,,

Get your other key and see if it starts. Second, if it does not. Disconnect the battery and let things reset and then see if it starts..

If not, then spend some money..

I replace these from time to time. Labor is about 1/2 an hour, don't remember what parts cost is but your estimate seems in the ballpark. Other shops can do this but they will need the factory scan tool either an NGS or an IDS. ALot of mechanics won't mess with the system simply because they don't understand it and are afraid to learn it. The most annoying part of the whole job is waiting the ten minutes for the system to grant you access so you can relearn it.

The vehicle turns over doesn't it?

You can always disable it calibration wise as well.
