Ok, I just purchased a used '02 Escort ZX2 with 57k miles on it. It has a very rough idle, so much it vibrates the steering wheel. Any solutions?

Now that I read this again, I am trying to figure out how a rough idle can vibrate the steering wheel. Does it vibrate when driving?

I am at a loss. An engine vibration should not vibrate the steering wheel.

The vibration is when the car is stopped and at idle, it is worse with the car in gear than it is when not it gear with the car stopped. Seems like the lower the rpm the greater the vibration.... There is no vibration when driving, it drives and rides great. There are no codes......... plugs are supposedly good till 100k........according to the service manual.....do not know about the wires....

Some 4 cylinders I have had in the past. If the idle was too low. They vibed the whole car, but ran good. Maybe the IAC, MAF or TB is dirty...

I had bag plugs, wires and fuel filters cause this....

I have also had bad mounts and blown head gaskets cause this

I have also had a bent Crank pulley cause this.

LOL

02' ZX2 would have the DOHC 2.0 I think, not the SOHC.

(my 01 sedan 4 door had the SOHC)

I know the SOHC had the IAC, but not sure about the DOHC.

If so, I would staart by cleaning it. As low as the mileage is, it may be a bit gummed up.
