key fobs lifespan

Do key fobs have a battery inside?If they do, how long do they last and are they replaceable?

The range on both of mine seems to have greatly diminished lately.Any thoughts would be appreciated.

They do have a battery in them if you bought your st new in 02 I would say it maybe time

to replace them it is easy to do.

Like Rick said there are replaceable batteries inside. I have the Ford alarm/remote start fob and it takes an A23 battery. It looks like a shorter AAA. Just remove the screw on the back of the remote to open it and you will see the battery there. Any auto parts store or radio shack will have what you need.



If you are losing range that is definitely a sign that the battery needs to be replaced. Definitely do it before it completely dies.

As George points out, the weaker the battery the shorter the range. Install a new battery for better range.
