I have a 2001 Sport Trac, so my idle air control valve is located right on top pretty much close to center of the engine. The reason you are not seeing it, is because it's right underneath the plastic 4.0 shroud; which is held on by two screws. The IAC is also easy to remove and is also held on by two screws plus you have to unclip the wiring harness. BTW, I have an extra IAC valve. I replaced my old one with a new valve and it didn't help with my starting problem. (I needed a fuel pump.) They run about $65.
