After my hard drive really crashed last year and my Microsoft Backups would not restore, I tested and bought new Backup software, as well as a 2x 1TB disks NAS (Network Available Storage) system set up as RAID-1 (Master and Shadow) to back up My Documents any time there is a change, and I back up my whole hard drive to a 1TB USB drive every Sunday morning.
I was fortunate enough to be able to cobble together most (about 98%) of the lost data that I had copies on different drives and different computers.
