I know this may sound alittle strange but; I've had my 05 ST for a year now and I really don't like the key and my dad drives an undercover 01 Taurus SEL and his key looks identical to ours but it has an actual ford emblem on it.

So, I was wondering if I could go and get that key cut an programmed. Any one know if it's possible? Or any alternatives?

Wait, are you saying your Trac keys don't have the emblem on them? The keys for my 04 Trac look exactly like those above.

Well, I do have an 05 XLS so maybe I did get the bare minimum on everything.

On ebay you can get the pretty cheap. $10 to $20ish. Then get them cut and program it your self.

From the dealer the Complete key (cut and programed) will be close to $80.00.

Speaking of transponder keys.... I lost my keys in Phoenix over last weekend. Good thing I had my spare with, today I took trac in for oil changed and got another key.

39.xx for key 38.xx for fob 95 to program. oil change 39.95 think also they roated my tires. Got the bill it was 201.00. Should I feel loved? ha ha!! :)

ps: I lost my cell/cam in Vegas two days prior ha ha!! Guess what?? The dude that had it held it and I got it back :) Lucky me!

Let this be a lesson to all.

Go buy a THIRD key from ebay now. Get it cut and program it yourself. This way, when and if you do ever loose a key you will still have two keys. Why is that important??? Because you MUST have two keys to program the third key. If you ONLY have a single key you can not program any other keys.

You will be stuck with a $100 or higher bill at a minimum compared to $20ish if you get a third key now.

Even if you buy just the key from Ford it is still WAY cheaper as you can do the programing yourself.

The FACTORY keys have the ford on them.

The cheepo Aftermarket keys do NOT have the emblem...

The ones on Ebay are great, I paied 20 bucks for mine and the local locksmith cut for free..

Took 20 seconds to program my self..

I even carry a spare NON CODED key, just in case..

Speaking of cost reduction, I read in a "Way Forward" article that states Ford is going to reduce material cost a billion(?) dollars over the next few years. I wonder how they're gonna do that? Cheaper materials? Less features?

I think it's sad that my 95 Ranger had a lighted glove compartment with lock, a cup holder on the driver's door panel, and a light under the hood. My 04 Trac is so much more than that Ranger was, but I wish those features from the Ranger were carried over to the Trac.

Amen, Flip! Ford could drop these stupid PATS chipped keys for standard keys if they want to save money!

My Escort GT has lighted mirrors and a light under the hood. Something I could never figure out on the Trac. Why not?

Thanks to Coastie for the heads-up. I just bought a spare on Ebay ($15.98 incl. S&H) while I still have both originals, only a matter of time before I lose one. It looks exactly like my '04 factory ones, black molded Ford emblem on one side.

Oh, and I miss my Ranger's locking glove box, they really dropped the ball on that.
