Factory bed cover rubber latch cover

Hey guys & gals. I'm hoping someone has experienced the issue I'm trying to overcome. The rubber cover with the flip up for insertion of the key to lock or unlock the rear cover has come off. I have removed the nuts that pull the locking mechanism down to the cover and it appears it is held in place with a flange on the rubber cover base that is to be under the outer edge of the latch plate. I don't seem to be able to get enought wiggle room to get the rubber flange back under the lock plate. Any ideas or expertise is appreciated.

I had the same thing when I bought my truck..... You have to remove the nuts completely and then work at it.... It will go back, Even try a plastic stick or something like that to help. I had to stretch mine and it popped back on..
