Does anyone know the purpose of the bottom drivers side button on the center console by any chance? I've looked at several STs that were loaded (for example the other buttons are for heated seats and mirrors along the bottom of the console) and am curious if the button is for an option I'm not aware of or if it was left blank on purpose by Ford. Does anyone have an idea regarding this? Thanks

I think you may be talking about the buttons in the bezel surrounding the radio and center AC vents.

It depends on the options you have on your Sport Trac, and some are carry-overs from the regular Explorer models but were never available on the Sport Trac:

If the Trac does not have OEM fog-lights, there will be a button blank there.

If the Trac does not have 4WD it will have a round blank were the 4WD switch would be.

Sport Tracs are not equipped with rear defoggers as Explorers, so you may find a blank button for the rear defrosters go.

If someone added an aftermarket dash trim bezel (wood, carbon fiber, etc), many dash trim kits also fit Explorers and they provide button blanks to fill in where the Sport Trac is missing an Explorer option switch.

Gen-1 Sport Trac's with Seat Heaters will have the switch on the outside of the seat with the other seat controls.

This only applies to the Gen-1 Sport Trac(2001-2006) Gen-2 Sport Trac's are different.

No

I have a "non-4X4 trac and I assure you there is no "round blank" there.

Tom,

We don't know if Richard's Sport Trac is stock or perhaps modified with a different bezel or dash trim kit by a previous owner???

Some aftermarket dash trim kits are designed to fit many different Explorer models with different optional equipment and may have holes for switches that you might not have on your vehicle. When they do, they often provide button blanks to cover the lack of a switches such as the 4WD, fog lights, rear defrosters, etc.

I purchased a Wood dash kit for my 2001 Sport Trac and it had several openings for switches I did not have but they provided button blanks to mask the lack of an actual switch.

He doesn't own one yet; he's looking at a 2010 Adrenalin and is specific about the location of the button.

Yardsale,

Thanks for clearing that up. He never said what model he owned or if he was just looking?

His being specific about the button does not mean much when he was not specific about the model year of the Sport Trac???? I never owned a Gen-2, so I was not sure what button he was talking about.

So are you going to tell us what the button is for? Assuming it is blanked only because that options is not on that specific Trac?

In the end, I was correct is telling him it was probably a button blank

Ya; he provided only tidbits. I checked his profile and it states "Looking to buy a 2010 Adrenalin soon". I figured it goes with him looking at "several STs".

From what I can tell, that is a part of the console is common to another vehicle and there is no ST option for that space. I could find no image with other than the blank and no ST part list that names it (pedal adjust, seat heaters, etc.). My guess - seat memory or traction control for the Explorer.

Yardsale,

My guess is that the button is for a future option.....perhaps a passenger side ejection-seat

It's for seat memory on Explorers.
