I have always used bar oil in my chain saw. I know some use any waste oil they have. I was thinking about using the moble 1 from my trac. I am thinking it is a lot thinner than bar oil. Just wondering if it would hurt anything.

My experience with bar oil is that it is extremely sticky. This fact helps it to stay on the chain for a longer period and prevents overheating of the bar. I'm one of those who believes, most of the time, that its better to follow the manufaturers directions. Bar oil is cheap, I buy it in 1 gallon containers from the local small engine guy. I guess its up to you, whatever you decide, good luck. BC

My chain saws never recommended bar oil, they just used SAE 30 wieght engine oil. I have had the saw for about 15 years and I never had any problems with the chain or the bar. But then I am not a lumberjack. I only use it to trim some trees around my yard about once a year.
