I have an '02 ST 2x4. I need new brake pads. Does anyone know a good brand, part numbers, etc. of some brake pads I could buy at my local AutoZone or Advanced Auto Parts?

Not being assinine but this Is a highly discussed topic. Try a search, you will find alot of answers and opinions.

I have Hawk brake pads on my Escort GT. They are amazing.

On my Trac, I use Carbon Metallic pads.

I am fed up with the ceramics on my st, Was considering the Hawks or a set of Wagner SX severe duty pads...

Todd,

My brother was fed up with the Ceramics he had on his Avenger. Swaped them out to the Carbon Metallic pads and was happy until he traded the vehicle for his Explorer.

He runs the Carbon Metallics on his Explorer.

You will be happy with the Hawks if you go that route. I am happy with the SP Street Ferro Carbon Hawk pads I am running.

Tom

what are the ones rob sells??

Todd Z

Todd, Why were you fed up with ceramics?

One thing I have appreciated about the ceramics I have had on for quite a while is the lack of dust that was a constant problem with the metallic pads.

LOL..... the dust ??? Seen any of my pics lately ????

They throw off the same dust my semi metallics do !!!!!!

Also I hate the way they stop, They don't grab until they warm up a little and then they get soft and pedal feel stinks...

These are my second set of a different manufacturer and I cant stand them....

Tom, I meant the make up of the pad, CF, Ceramic, ETC, not the manufacturer...

I've had EBC Green pads, with EBC drilled/slotted rotors. Took a while to get used to the extra noise and vibration for the drilled and slotted rotors, but been quite happy, espicially with the lack of brake dust. ( Or the lack of black brake dust, it's actucally still there, just gray colored so not as noticable )

I have been using Raybestos QuietStop Super Premium ceramic pads for over a year & a half; part no. PGD833QS. I am going to put the same ones on soon.

edit: No noticable brake dust with the Raybestos QuietStop Super Premium ceramic pads.

Akebono and Wagner ThermoQuiet are good. The Wagner QuikStops are okay, but squeeeel at times, and don't stop as well as the previously mentioned ones.

I have Friction Master Ceramics and have had them on for about 25K. No problems and my rims never looked like Todd's. Even after going for 2 1/2 months without a wash during the winter. Link has the part number.;)

I also have EBC Green Stuff pads. Love them; my ST will stop on a dime, and that's with OE style rotors.

stonemiser, the Friction Master Ceramics are the ones Todd has. That link didn't pull up a part number for me, but the part number is CMX 833 for those interested.

Sorry, I didn't try the link after posting like I usually do. My bad.

Like i said though. I have been very impressed with mine. I actually wash the vehicle because it's dirty, not because my rims are black anymore since going to them. I had Friction Master Semi-Metallics on mine at first when I switched to drilled/slotted rotors and my rims were completely black after 100 miles. (and I mean BLACK);)
