Black stuff leaking from steering wheel

I have a 2001 Job 2. For the last week, after my truck's been sitting in the sun, I've noticed a black tarry substance leaking from the stitched seam on the top portion of the leather-wrapped steering wheel. It's sticky and slippery at the same time. It comes off with alcohol or Windex. What is that stuff?

Mark, I have the same thing, only gets on my hands when I am driving on hot days;





Solution was to buy a steering wheel cover. No more stuff.. for now.

Mine was doing that a long time ago. The dealer I got it from wouldn't honor the TSB.

Technical service bulletins (TSBs) are instructions on how to correct; they are not recalls (factory paid repair or replacement). Recalls are typically limited to safety concerns. A TSB may accompany a recall.
