Looking at my trailer light plug today I found two wires marked Aux CHMSL pwr and CHMSL ground. What are these wires for. Thank you for any help.

Think a bed cap.

I have never seen a CHMSL on a trailer or a wiring connection standard that is designed for it.

By law, if you install a cap on your bed, you have to have a center stop lamp.

They are for a bed cap...

you can also use it for the feed for the trailer brake controller, although I tapped into the fuse for that wire on the side of the dash...

Doh. [Brain spasm.] That too.

Third brake lamps are novelties on toy haulers, especially for folks who match the rears to the rears of their RVs. I suppose they draw from the normal brake wire though.

Must be a state thing, my truck has a cap with no working third brake light and I've passed inspection 3 times.
