After driving the ST for 11 years and ~140,000 miles, my wife broke the news to me the other day that she wanted a new car "for our anniversary." I guess the card wasn't up to snuff this year.

So, after a lot of research, yesterday, 8/1/11, we left the ST at the Kia dealership and came home with a 2012 Kia Sorento SX AWD in Titanium Silver. It's my first new vehicle in 40 years of driving that isn't a Ford, but Ford doesn't have anything that can touch the Sorento in content for the money, and the 10 year/100k drivetrain warranty sealed the deal.

We'll miss the ST -- it has been a remarkably reliable, versatile vehicle, but the time was right to move into something newer. I hope whoever gets it next loves it as much as we have!

No offense, but  I have had all kinds of vehicles, but I will always go to Ford for the reliability and many other reasons. I used to drive plenty of Kias when I was a valet, and I never did like them.

But I do wish you and the wife the best of luck with the new Sorento. Hope you guys will get another ST later down the road.

Caymen: Yeah, I know. ;-)

Dragon: You're entitled to your opinion, but:

How long ago were you a valet? Like Honda and Toyota, Kia has made great strides since its early years in the U.S. Their quality rivals Ford's & Toyota's nowadays.

Have you read any of the reviews of the 2012 Sorento?

Have you driven a 2012 Sorento -- with the V6? ~60 HP more than my Gen1 ST (and it shows), with better ride & handling.

My first brand-new car in 1979 was a Ford (Mustang Turbo TRX), as has been every new vehicle since then, up to my 2003 Lightning. But as far as the ST goes, they lost me with the styling of the Gen 2 (sorry, Gen2 owners!), and now it's out of production altogether.

Buying a Kia wasn't a decision that I made lightly, but there's still a Ford in the household: the Lightning, which I plan to keep for a long time to come.

The Sorento is an awesome vehicle. It blows everything out of the water in it's class. The SX model competes on a level above anything Ford has for 2012 imo.

You did good. That is an amazing vehicle and you're going to love it.

I don't really see how anyone can consider a Gen1 more attractive than a Gen2 ST lol but...to each their own.

I'm in love with my Lightning. If I were you, I couldn't trade it. A low mileage 03....paid for....yeah.

I'm turning my STA into a Lightning by trading a Lightning lol. Sometimes I want to call off the whole deal and just mod the crap out of my L. You can make so much power, safely, for very little cost with an L.

AAAAAHHHH! No seriously, thats a nice vehicle and good luck with it. Agreed, that KIA has come a long way and they do produce a fine vehicle, have great warranties and seem to be very fuel efficient and dependable. I'm not partial to the styling, but its your wife's car! Have fun, stay in touch and do one of those vehicle reports down the road and let us know how it really is! Bob

The Kia does look okay and I have good things about the new ones. I am sort of hoping the Vertrek - or whatever they end up calling it - fills in the same spot at Ford.
