It was pointed out today to me how strange I am. Am I the only one that spray paints my rotors with black grill paint before I put them on?

The same day I installed the springs and caliper covers, I did the brakes......

But they came that way from brake performance!

Good points, Paul and Les. Even if using a paint specifically made for brake calipers, such as, VHT, Duplicolor, G2, etc.

The heat generated by hard sustained stops has been known to approach 1000 degrees. Most of these paints are "continuously" rated at HALF that temp.

BBQ grill paint? Only rated for 500 degrees of continuous temperature, or 1200 "intermittently", whatever that means.

The calipers may look nice and black now, but NFL. (Not For Long)

(Meaning, the first time you touch the brake pedal)

P.S.- Why doesn't NASA paint the silica heat "tiles" on the STS to make them "look" nicer? (To see our tax dollars "at work")

I use engine paint on mine and from a rattle can, they also make paint for brakes, etc. that you brush on with a small paint brush that's included in the kit. You can get any of these from the local auto store.

Yes, it wears right off where the pad touches. It doesn't on the center hat, or outside edges, thereby keeping the whole area from looking like crap through the wheel.

Mine came from Brake performance and the rear discs were plated or dipped and completely black. The fronts were aslo treated the same way, but the contact areas were clean. No, Dingo, your not crazy, your reasons make perfectly good sense.

The only reason that I am concerned Dingo is that you didn't have custom blue grill paint made for the rotors!

Mine were ZINC coated 2 years ago...

IT is all gone now..
