This is for real and has a target date of 2010 for selling here in the U.S.

If you can, imagine a vehicle that runs on air, achieves over 100 gas-equivalent mpg and over 90 mph, has zero to low C02 emissions, seats six, has plenty of space for luggage, cuts no safety corners, and costs no more than an average economy to mid-size vehicle.

This is the expected performance of the revolutionary compressed air vehicle that Zero Pollution Motors (ZPM) is introducing to North America. The vehicle is powered by the Compressed Air Engine (CAE) developed by Motor Development International (MDI), a 15-year old company based in Nice, France, and headed by inventor and Formula One race car engineer, Guy Negre. ZPM is the exclusive representative for MDI in the United States.

Our Mission: To bring zero pollution motoring at any speed, for any distance, to the largest number of motorists possible and, in doing so, significantly improve the quality of the air we breathe and reduce our collective carbon footprint.

Kinda like a giant "Air Hog" These are going into production in India first.

Don't know if they will catch on here in the US, but who knows.

Now if they were powered by Hot Air and BS, Washington DC would provide

an endless source of energy!

JD, The answer to your question is below and highlighted in bold. The article is from a magazine that we subscribe to.

France based Zero Pollution Motors has created a car that runs off air and produces zero emissions. The Air Car is motorized by electricity that powers a compressor which compresses air to 4,500 pounds per square inch into a pressure tank. The compressed air is then used to power the engine. Motor Development International is the mother company for ZPM, and is headed by air car inventor Guy Negre. Negre worked with his son and 30 other engineers to bring compressed air technology to market. "It was a logical next step for him to create clean, ecofriendly engines," states ZPM communications director Kevin Haydon. "The green concept goes beyond the cars themselves and into production...the whole concept cuts down the carbon emissions associated with vehicle manufacture and distribution by well over a half." This innovative car will travel about 1,000 miles at up to 96 mph on one tank. ZPM is manufacturing 10,000 vehicles in its first year and is estimating that they will cost $17,800. ZPM began taking reservations in early 2008 for cars to be delivered in 2010.
