I agree with TJR,

Where ever technology has taken over jobs, new jobs have been created. Whenever companies downsized, other jobs opened up. The only problem with these newly created jobs is that they require more education, or a different skill set. If the people are not willing and ready to lean these new technologies, they will be the ones standing in line at the unemployment office. The ones who think the world owes them a living will be the ones robbing banks, getting drunk, taking drugs, or comitting suicide.

Many companies that lay off people due to technology changes and downsizing often offer training and job counsiling to help those workers through the transistion.

Where the real problem lies is when the unions force the companies to limit or restrict the amount of automation in their factories so that workers can have jobs. That artificially inflates the cost of goods produced and makes the company less competitive when it has to charge more for labor and their hads are tied because they cannot bring in automation to do the work faster, cheaper, and more efficiently.

America is outsourcing a lot of our jobs overseas because the labor is cheaper. America needs to find a market for our services and labor force that will make countries overseas whant to use us to outsource for the skills that we have. And it's not all about the pay scales

Germany has one of the highest labor rates in the world, yet they are also one of the richest nations. They have guest workers come in from other European countries to work and they are paid less and given less benefits than the typical German worker, yet they thrive on the global economy building things that others cannot do. They do this with engineering excellence and unequaled quality. It is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but people who want and need the level of engineering quality will go to Germany for their products.

My German landlord once told me a tale about a US company that claimed it had created the smallest drill bit in the world and sent a sample drill bit to Germany. The Germans drilled a hole in it and sent it back.

America needs to find out what it's best resource to the world is and start moving in that direction very quickly. The Germans and Japanese did it after their countries were destroyed in WWII and now they are two of the larger economic powers in the world.
