I did it for $10, just requires some "engineering". I used a generic lock actuator which came with everything I needed, I just had to make it work is all.

No! Check the projects here, you can get a junkyard actuator for a few $, and wire is cheap, too.

IMO, $65 is not bad for self install. Dont have to worry with fabriction and collecting parts. Thats just me. If $$ is tight. Go the cheaper route. Those on here that DIY fab work seemed to be easy.

After doing a internet search; that is really not a bad price. I recall that in '01 the power tailgate lock was going for around $40 - $50, and now they are averaging around $100. The part no. listed in the '01 project on j.c. Whitney is $100.

I think it's definitely worth it.

I'll have to look to see how hard it is to hook up to the power lock function in the project section, but I plan to get one.

I've most certainly spent more $$ on things that weren't near as useful. :unsure:
