Why are Laptop HD so expensive?

Why can I buy a 1 TB external HD drive for $79 but to get a 300GB hd for my laptop cost more than $150??????????????? I have an HP with a Western Digital WD1600BEVE (160)

Have you checked Tiger Direct or Frys? They usually have some pretty good deals.

Laptop drives are more expensive because of the smaller size. It also depends on the speed and size of the drive and whether you need the older IDE drive or the newer SATA drive.



I agree with Roger, look at TigerDirect, etc. They often have good quality HD's at cheaper prices than your local Best Buy or Computer stores.



I just located several 500GB laptop drives at TigerDirect for as little as $54.99 and several 750GB drives for $89-$99
