Have had a whirring noise for the last couple weeks that increases and decreases with speed. Has seemed to be getting a little louder over time also. 2003 4x4, 135,000 on her. Just checked and the 4 wheel drive is engaging and disengaging o.k. Thought maybe it wasn't disengaging, the noise is similar to when it is in 4 high and expressway driving. Any ideas? Does not shimmy thru the steering wheel, does not pull at all while driving.

When vehicles are under load the Clutch fan will pull the engine fan to keep the engine from over heating. If you are beside a semi going up a hill you will definitely hear that trucks engage and howl. :driving:

Thanks for the input guys. Going to have a buddy, that is a Ford mechanic at WHQ here in Dearborn, take a look and see if he can diagnose and narrow it down. Will pass on the info and ideas from here.

Final diagnosis...right front wheel bearing, probably due to the great condition of Michigan roads!. Again, thanks for the help.
