I have had men from the days gone by tell me that they have bought a replacement engine (from a salvage yard) for 25 dollars and the shop helped them install it for free. It would take 2 to 3 hours and they were totally done..



Those were the good ol days...
 
Thats wicked awesome! Too bad we couldn't have those prices today!



But you wouldn't want the wages to go with them!



My grandfather worked at the Ford Assembly Plant in Charlotte putting the canvas on the tops of Model T's & Model A's. After that he opened his own garage, retired in 1955. His old ledger I saw listed repairs, the likes of rebuilding engine $12.50 and such. I've heard him speak of making $5 a week ........ how times have changed.
