Transmission indicator

Anyone ever replace the cable that controls the shift indicator in the dash? Mine broke, and I have not looked to see how much a paint it will be to replace. The indicator I am refering to is in the dash that shows if you are in Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive ,etc.

That is the indicator itself. The Ford part number is 1L5Z7A110AA. Ford MSRP is $38.30.

I thought there was a project on this. Maybe it was just a members post. A few years ago.

I looked and looked for detailed info on changing it, for a friend, and never found anything real good. It's not hard to do but it's hard to tell someone how.........
