Tonneau cover ?

Does anyone know what the purpose is for the bungie looking cords on the inside rear of the oem cover 2002 ?

Was it just so people can ask a stupid question .I was curiousnline:

They hold your lid down so it doesnt bang when you are driving with one half flipped open. :driving:
