After installing a Zabteck TB with success decided to spring for a used XCAL3 with (87E/87P/93P) tunes, the same (RBV0) PCM code with four remaining unlocks. I did not adjust the idle stop screw on the new TB. The check engine light comes on after clearing the PO122 code immediately after starting. The ST shifts extremely hard and has no mid range power above 3K, and bogs down. May have mis-alignred the TPS reinstalling the new TB damaging the windings. Part number stamped on the sensor is F5RF-9B989-BA.

Checked with Torrie @ FastPartsNetwork, and is half the price of the local dealer(s), including shipping. Any help greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

If the used X3 that you purchased is unlocked, why would you think that you need to purchase another one? Just seems like the "canned" tunes aren't working on your Trac. You can simply order custom tunes from Torrie, upload them to the X3, then to your Trac.

That's what I did, and it worked great! The tunes were $50 each from Torrie.

Andy- I believe the Xcal3 is functioning properly. My concern is that I installed the TPS incorrectly, when I swapped the TB, damaging the windings.

Guess the only fail safe way of knowing, would be testing it with a working multimeter, and making sure the voltages are correct and consistent.

Thanks.

Steve, it sounds like the TB was working fine for awhile until you added the Xcal tunes? Put the tune back to stock and see if your problem goes away. The TPS is pretty hard to mess up just by swapping it over. If you installed the torsion keys, I'm sure you're capable of swapping the TPS.

Thanks Dan. The "check engine" light appeared after installing the new TB.

Cleared the trouble code and "returned to stock", using the Xcal3 several times, to no avail.

Check engine light still comes on with the usual symptoms. (Hard shifting, no power, etc.)

Just don't want to order a new TPS, if I don't need one. Thanks.

If you return the vehicle to stock and get the same DTC its not a calibration issue.

log throttle position absolute KOEO and depress the pedal and watch how the counts scale.

Thanks Torrie.

May be contacting you for a new TPS after following your tech advice.

Incidentally, I did not adjust the idle stop screw on the new Zabteck TB.

Roger that, Steve. In your initial post, it sounded like your problems began when you installed the canned tunes. And I can't recall anyone on this site ever using canned tunes before. I believe most folks have always used custom tunes from one of our vendors. That's why I thought your tunes were the source of the problem.

Just to eliminate the obvious, you did transfer the gasket from the old throttle body to the new one?

I had similar problems, and though I read the codes with my SGII, I don't recall them.

(Since I followed the wrong set of directions that didn't mention the gasket, and mine wasn't blue, I forgot to do it...embarrassing)

Thanks Kevin. Made absolutely sure my "white turned blue" TB gasket was "white glove" clean, seated, and torqued properly, after reading about your "fiasco". LOL

I am baffled, but almost positive, I misaligned the TPS and damaged the windings after mashing the throttle, several times, to get some power above 2500 RPM.

Needless to say, it didn't work. As they say, "haste makes waste". Too damn anxious. A $60 "boner" that will never happen again, I hope. Thanks.

Don't feel bad. That's happened to many of us with this install. I broke my TPS when installing the Zabteck TB and had to order a new one.:banghead: Torrie shipped it out PDQ.

Was forced to buy the Motorcraft DY-986 "Potentiometer" at the only local Ford dealer that had one in stock, for $93.

Torrie (FastPartsNetwork) quoted me $55 shipped ground. Could not wait for it, OUCH.

Was making a final attempt to reinstall the original TPS when it unsprung, and flew apart into pieces.

The internal electric contacts were damaged beyond repair, from previous attempts. Very delicate mechanism.

(Needed to drive the ST to the dealer, had to catch a bus instead)

Just remember there is more than one way of installing a Throttle Position Sensor.

I installed it the wrong way, misaligned it, and it cost me time and money.

All is well now. No check engine light or PO122 Code, runs great, thanks to you guys.

Lesson learned if in doubt. Buy a Ford Workshop Manual or ask the gang at MySt.

Thanks and Aloha.
