what is the best way to paint the side bars? what paint do i use? prep? thanks.....

How about getting them Rhino lined? I think some others have and were satisfied..

take them right apart and grind them to bare metal. prime and use bumper guard paint (same stuff). they look 10x better then stock and will last a lot longer.

I disassembled the side bars, then after removing all the surface rust, I painted all the hardware and underside of the bars with rustoleum flat black spray paint and the visible surface with DupliColor truck bed liner spray paint. Gives a great texture and will resist wear. Did mine for about $30 including the navel jelly to remove the rust.

I also brought mine down to bare metal and removed all the rust. Then sprayed the truck bed liner from the rattle can onto them. Two coats of bed liner and the proper cure time and it will last a long time. Where I live all we have is gravel roads and There aren't any chips on mine.
