my wife's hyundai santa few's speedometer while driveing drops to zero and then bounces back and fourth every once in a while. Does any one have any ideas???

Thanks in advance.

The speedo my be electrical driven, like most, rather than the old mechanical type. You may have a bad connection which drops the signal to the speedo.

How it works is...

You have a speed sensor at the tranny/trans-axle.

It sends a signal to the ECM/PCM (Brain).

Which in turn sends a pulse to the Speedo.

Based on your description, I will bet the issue is within the speedo.

However, it is worth checking connections and pulling the speed sensor and making sure the gears/teeth are all good on both the sensor and the drive in the trans-axle.

Once the sensor is pulled, you can actually test it with a DVOM on the A/C scale if you so desire...
