Hi Y'all

I need to set up a wireless network with my computers and router. I have a Dlink wireless router but I never have set up a wireless router for my 'puters. Is there anything special that I need to have to set it up? Any help would be appreciated. I used to be a geek but I am obsolete on the new stuff.

Y'all have a good one

Just follow the instructions. It's pretty simple. Also, DO set up the encryption. If not, your neighbor can be loooking at kiddy porn and you take the fall for it.

They can't make you take the fall for what your neighbor does on your wireless, they actually have to look at your computer to see what you've stored on it and if you have it saved then they charge you. Also, every computer has a unique MAC address that can be used to tell right away if you're the one looking at it or not.

I'd setup a password, MAC address filtering, and turn off broadcast. Then most people won't be able to find your network if it's not broadcasting, and they'd have to know the password plus be able to spoof your MAC address in order to get in.

R1Ch99999,

I don't know what you mean by "can't take the fall" for what your neighbor might do if they siphon off your open wireless connection.

If your ISP thinks there is illegal stuff going on they will shut down your internet connection and then ask questions later. From their standpoint you are expected to keep your connection secure and anybody using your connection for illicit activities falls under the "your problem" not theirs column.
