04 4x4. I have checked the pcv elbow and it is like new. Checked vacuum hoses and all seem ok. Cleaned the throtle valve and iac. Still ruff. I changed the plugs and wires a few months ago. I dont see a spark jumping. No code either. Any ideas? Thanks yall!

It's possible that the IAC is bad (although, I don't hear of many failures).

Fuel delivery? When is the last time the fuel filter was changed?

Will it hold a steady high RPM, but not accelerate well?

It is slugish. it will get to speed but it takes longer to get there and running ruff. Anyone have cats go bad? Fuel filter was changed 20,000 miles ago I think.

I think it's fuel related, but I have been wrong, many times.

Well, then I think it's good ;)

Timing sensor?

While running, try removing the spark plug wires, one at a time, to see if there is no difference with one.

You could remove all the plug wires and set them on the plugs enough so that the plugs fire and use an insulating glove or tool to pull each. Yes, there will be a bit of an arc, but this takes only five minutes.

I would think a code would result from a misbehaving timing sensor (crankshaft position sensor, I think).

Mine was the IAC. Exact symptoms you are describing. Symptoms started out of the blue one morning and the night before the truck was fine.

I had pretty much the same in my 04 4x4 Adrenlin. But I had a code. Ford dealership couldn't figure it out. I had no idea. A friends shop couldn't figure it out. I was on a breach of trading it in. I spent $X amount of money on it, all with new parts and finally figured it out.

Put new: Plugs, wires, coil pack, PCV valve, upper and lower intake gaskets, IAC, oil and filter, fuel filter, air filter, MAF sensor.

Then I started replacing O2 sensors. Had one stuck on the Random Tech Cat. So ordered a new CAT, and O2 sensor that went there. Check for codes, and I'm in the clear.

After all of that, wished I knew how easy it really was. Although, new parts, with 182k miles. Maybe all it was needed someday and it runs like a champ right now. Except for my rear passenger brake caliper that I think it sticking.

But I had a code.

And the Blue Oval folks couldn't figure it out? Wow.

The mention of the O2 sensor has me thinking about valve train issues. Any thoughts on this??

HO - any pinging or clattering on cold start?

Did you check the feel of the IAC when you had it out? Did you lube it after cleaning?

Initially you noted that there weren't any codes; are they new?

It would appear that you, Sir, have an electrical problem. With the seemingly random nature of the combination of codes, the crankshaft position sensor might be your culprit.

Mine started out as PO171. Then after figuring that out. Had another code draw for the PO305. Replaced Coil pack, had a screamin demon pack, (put like 60k miles on it). After that, had another code, can't remember what it was, and started replacing O2 sensors.

Ford had the same codes I had from my SCT3 scanner. First couple times they just reset the system. Still had the same problem.

It had rough idle and loss of power. Ran like it had bad gas. Dad assumed maybe some unburned gas made the CAT go bad. I tried to go the route with FORD and they just were not working for me, kept replacing parts and didn't fix anything. Eventually got a free coil pack and that was crushed. Still had a code of course. Friends shop replaced this and that, and when I thought I had everything covered. Replaced the CAT and all the O2 sensors and I have no problems anymore.
