Take a minute and think about this and then take another minute and think about your reply..

All these rants prove one thing for certain...You can't get thirty people to agree on anything. Therefore you damn sure aren't going to get 30,000,000 people to agree on anything.

As long as we are bickering and arguing we aren't doing a damn thing to help the situation.

This is EXACTLY what the people in government are counting on. As long as the American people sit back and argue and do nothing they can continue to do as they please. This is not going to stop. We are on the elevator going down and it isn't going to stop until it hits the bottom! Enjoy the ride. We are our own worst enemy. Until ALL the people get together and say "we have had enough" it ain't gonna change.

I realize that most people can't just up and quit their job and start a revolution, but in the next few months a lot of us aren't going to have to worry about that. Think you will have time then? Think you will be able to agree to agree? Shock me, show me it can happen.....

I don't know that we're at a point of revolution just yet, but it's pretty clear we need a shake-up of the system.

Was watching one of the senators on cable news this morning talking about how badly mismanaged the US auto companies are, and how the executives need to be fired, because they can't be trusted with $25 billoon of the taxpayers money.

Hmm. Careful senator. That rings pretty true in your organization as well.

"You say you want a revolution

Well you know

We'd all want to change the world

You tell me that it's evolution

Well you know

We'd all want to change the world

But when you talk about destruction

Don't you know that you can count me out"

If America REALLY wanted change we would have elected Ron Paul as president.

Ron Paul, RuPaul, what about the original "Paul..." for president:

America's been wanting change since '68

:lol::lol::lol:

Now you're showing your age, TJR!:p

I seriously doubt that most of our younger members have even heard of Pat Paulsen, let alone that he ran for President in every election from 1968 up to the 1996 election.

If the big three are given 25 Bil. that will get them thru 3 mos combined.

So at the end of jan 09 will all be better? not.

Is going to take them yrs to re-tool for the cars americans want and need.

If they go down it will be horrific as one in ten american jobs are tied to the auto industry.

Bud of mine just bought a brand new shelby 500 for 30K less than they were selling for two yrs ago, would bet that the dodge Challanger will be a one yr only deal.

Would bet that the new camero, never gets built, time will tell.

it scares the poop outta me right now. I've been in this business for 16 years. It would be extremely difficult to start over in a new sector.

Truly sorry Roger, if they fail it will be hell, but I don't think there is enough money anywhere to keep them afloat long term.

If they go down and file for Chapter 11, a lot of businesses they owe money will get burned big time.

When the Big 3 fall, thousands of other businesses will fall right a long with them.

Not good. :(

Regarding the "big 3 going down", why is it that economists always call "small business" the backbone of the American economy, yet we don't bail out small business the way we do the big boys?

I know, I know; maybe "small business" really isn't the backbone of our economy as many say. Yes, I know that the impact of the "big 3 going down" would be felt widespread.

But I really don't see them going down. Let's just have them tighten there belts.

I would like to see what would happen if GM said to its employees and retirees:

"Look folks, in order to keep this company going everyone, and I mean everyone, is going to get paid 30% less tomorrow than they are getting paid today. That's the only way we can stay in business. This is non-negotiable!"

That sort of thing happens in small business all the time. Why should big business be any different?

If America REALLY wanted change we would have elected Ron Paul as president.

Ron Paul is a Republican. A Republican was not going to win this time around.

Because people are tired of giving up money when those same CEO's make millions upon millions of dollars while making self centered decisions.

I work hard for my money. I am not saying CEO's do not work hard, but me giving up 30% pay will hurt me worse than a CEO giving up 30%. Imagine having to buy a used yacht. Imagine the shame!

Tom

Tom, I agree with you on one point. The CEO's definately make way to much and are hurting thier companies. On the other hand, paying someone just out of highschool, who has no training, $20 an hour (I made up that number, but I know it's not minimum wage) because he is a "Union Member" now is also rediculous. I went to school to be what I am today and had to put in 10 years to break the $20 an hour barrier. That is what these companies have to do to keep production from stopping due to a strike. I think the problem is that noone who works at the "Big 3" really give a crap about the business itself. Then when the business goes under it's "Oh woe is me". I'm not harping on you about Unions, I know how you feel about them and I respect that. I just don't think they work well this day and age. They seem to me to do more harm than good. That's just my opinion.;)

Obviously the suggested 2 minutes thinking time were either too much or not enough.

One thing is for sure, nobody will ever agree enough to make a difference.

Ron Paul is a Republican. A Republican was not going to win this time around.

But he was unlike any other Republican. If you want to get elected to anything in this country you have to be affiliated with either the Repubs or Dems. Ron Paul fought against both parties. He only calls himself a Republican because at one time that party advocated less government. They kind of strayed away from that. They are now more like the Democrat party I supported back in the 60's and 70's while the Democrats now have turned into a socialist party.

I would have taken a pay cut to keep my job, but that wasn't an option. The company I worked for had several "Directors" who made well over 100K per year......they still have their jobs with the company.

It was the workers who made the company money that got laid off.

so tom,

you would not take the pay cut to help keep your company going ?

It depends.

Is the CEO taking a pay cut? Does the company take it serious or are they "playing the game"? Making a blanket statement like that is not fair. Could you afford a 30 or 40% pay cut?

But he was unlike any other Republican. If you want to get elected to anything in this country you have to be affiliated with either the Repubs or Dems. Ron Paul fought against both parties.

It doesn't matter. He is a Republican. Bush is a Republican. This country is in shambles and it happened with a Republican in office from Texas. Texas is the land of oil. The Bush family is oil. During his presidency, he put us in an unpopular war because many people think is because he was finishing "daddy's war".

We had high energy costs to the point it has destroyed this country. His fault or not, it happened while HE was in office. He takes the blame. Anyone with an R next to his/her name is unpopular.
