I just purchased a (new to me) bike last week, 2008 Kawasaki Vulcan VN900LT.

Been a while since I rode, so I am taking a state approved safety course to refresh.

Anyway, has anyone here ever participated or joined the Patriot Guard?

Just curious.

Dave,

I am itching to ride so bad right now, it hurts. I took the scooter up the road today to get a short ride in. Unfortunatly, it was 36 degrees and was cold, but SO worth it.

I have my CB torn apart at the moment, or I would have ridden that. Hopefully I will get the CB back together in a day or two.

I just wish it would warm up for crying out loud.

Never heard of the Patriot Guard until now. It looks like a great club to be in, though.

Here in Jersey, we're caught between the Pagans in Philly and the Hell's Angels in NY. I ride with a couple of Pagans from Pennsy and several other groups. South Jersey is sort of neutral or battlefield at times. The Angels dragged me in to a Tattoo shop because I was a "virgin" and they needed a sacrifice for the day. (they paid!!) Nicest guys, just don't cross them or they'll slit your throat while they are kickin' you in the nuts.( same for the Pagans) Couldn't have felt safer around any of those guys! True Dat, Bob

What? They paid to get you branded? What tattoo did they get you? I'm confused.

How long ago was this? Must have been a time when biker gangs were like the legends, not the piddling presence they are today, where the mightiest are basically the sons of anarchy.

I do not believe the Pagan's or Hell's Angels would mess with anyone that is part of the Patriot Guard.

Sooo, Has anyone joined or rode with the Patriot Guard?

I went ahead and joined yesterday, free membership, and I can really appreciate what they do. To have someone protest a funeral of a fallen soldier is horrible. The Patriot Guard takes a strong, but non confrontational stance between the protesters and the family of the soldier.

On a personal note, I wish Fred Phelps would just go ask in person what God thinks.

Comparing Patriot Guards to Hell Angels is an insult to the Patriot Guards.

Uh, I don't believe that's comparing apples to apples !

...and take that fugly witch of a wife with him !

I have a good friend who rides with the Guard. Even though I no longer ride I have also recently joined the Guard and support them completely!:supercool:

My Dad has been riding with both the Patriot Guard Riders & American Legion Riders for years. The PGR is a great group. They provide escorts & human shields against the WBC whack jobs for families of deceased Active Duty service members & Veterans. They also provide escorts for service members returning home from deployments. Dad loves doing it, just hearing the families say "Thank you" makes it all worthwhile.

The whole reason the PGR came into being was in response to the WBC whackos.

And owning a motorcycle isn't required to join the PGR, all you need is an enthusiasm for and belief in their cause.

I know. I live in MD, and it seems like one state up I have to be on the lookout for angry bikers who want to subjugate me, and whose very presence sends cops running.

Are dudes on motorcycles gonna pull out chains and start wailing on my ST if I pass them on I-95? It certainly sounds like it.

Are you guys still stuck in the early 70s? Where's Billy Jack?

I always expected more out of bikers, but even when the bars have huge bike gatherings, the predominate demographic is old white guys with zz top beards. The rowdiest it gets is when one of them starts a "fight" after he had a few too many beers to drink. Biker fights shouldn't be broken up by bar bouncers (the bouncers should be in awe) and a biker shouldn't even touch mere beer.

Even modern television has accepted that the legendary "bad-ass biker" of yore is extinct. The Sons of Anarchy spend more time acting out a soap opera with guns than being model thugs.

Totally confused over here.

(Also, that quote implies that no one in those motorcycle gangs can be part of the Patriot Guard...)
