P0401

I had the check engine light come on over the weekend. Stopped into O'Reillys and read the code: P0401 - EGR Flow Insufficient Detected. I had the same code about 2 -3 months ago. I replaced both the EGR valve and the sensor. Is there something else I should be doing? Did I just get a defective valve and/or sensor back in July?



BTW, I have a 2001 4x2 with 145,000 miles.

The sensor could have failed. That is more likely than a bad EGR valve.

Did you replace the EGR with a motorcraft part? Or a Bosch/Off Brand?

I believe it was some off brand. Would cleaning the throttle body or intake help at all?

No, the code has nothing to do with a dirty intake. it has everything to do with a sensor not sensing enough EGR flow.
