FYI, read the link if you have these shades and for whatever reason think it is a good idea to place your child's crib next to a window, or let your toddler's play on the furniture next to windows with these coverings.

What would we ever do without our loving and protecting government...

The answer--We would have a lot more kids unnecessarily dying from safety issues like this.

If you anti-government types want to complain about the tax system, or the proposed health care system, or other such things, as being excessive government involvement, go right ahead. But criticizing groups like the CPSC for making people aware of the potential dangers of household items which they may not have been aware of--and in doing so, saving the lives of countless individuals--only shows just how far you've gone off the deep end and lost touch with reality.

Get a grip Bill, if you can't figure out the obvious, then don't have children. It doesn't take a rocket scientest to realize a window blind cord next to a crib could be potentially dangerous. How did any of us ever survive childhood without the government.

By the way, no child has died yet from this.

Stairscases, stoves, hot water heaters, bathtubs, knives, plastic bags, ... (the list goes on) have all be recalled because of the potential dangers they represent in homes with infants and toddlers.

Description: This recall involves all sizes and colors of Pottery Barn Kids roman shades with exposed inner cords on the back. Two sewn-in labels are located at the bottom edge of the shade. The smaller label identifies the manufacturer as pottery barn kids while the second larger orange, black and white label warns that Cords and bead chains can loop around childs neck and STRANGLE. Roman shades with a fabric covering over the cords are not being recalled.

Gee, the manufacturer put a stinking warning label on there! Guess the parents were too lazy to notice or just simply cut it off the blind!

It's the same people we have to put warnings on mowers that say do not put your hand under deck while mower is running. :D

I said it before and I'll say it again....IT'S NOT ALWAYS SOMEBODY ELSES FAULT...IMO when we as a society get past that only then will things start to improve across the board.

There was an article today about the results from a study from the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Ohio analyzing data from 100 emergency rooms. The study showed that between 1990 to 2007 there were 300 deaths due to furniture falling on people. 93% of the deaths were due to dressers or TVs falling onto children age 3 or younger. Do we now need recalls on furniture and TVs? This recall will most likely cost millions of dollars if everyone returns them, even though the danger could be eliminated by common sense. However there is no more common sense or personal responsibility since we have been told by politicians and others that when bad things happen to us it is not our fault.

Ron White was right, you can't fix stupid.
