Okay, see if I can get this where everyone can understand it. What is the one, uno, single, only get 1 pick, thing I can do mechanically that will improve my gas mileage the most?

Dont start the truck and get a bicycle. haha or i noticed if you keep the rpms between 2 and 3 grand, and keep the highway speed around 75-80. it improves drastically.

Buy a bicycle. (shvd, ya beat me to the punch).

Honestly, from looking at the mileage logs here on the sight, i don't see much disparity in the mileage from one to another.

Biggest thing I have found is keeping my speed down to around 65-70, and driving like a grandma, and while O do drive like an old geezer around town, i still drive 75-80 on the highway and my mileage shows it. If you go back and look at my logs, the best mileage I ever got was on the highway, and normally only when I was traveling with my father-in-law in tow where I was forced to keep the speed down.

No matter how hard it is, keep it under 2500rpm's. That is, adjust your off the line habits and keep it under 75mph on the highway.

If I am good about doing this, I can get 18-20 mpg. If not (which is often the case) I only get 16-17 mpg. But I don't complain....

I agree with what everyone else has told you. There is nothing mechanically you can do or buy that will increase your gas mileage. At least not cost effective.

If you don't have a bike, you could simply push the ST. My be slow going at first, but you should be able to build up some momentum.

Fill the tires with Nitrogen instead of air.

It doesn't leak through the rubber like air because the molecules are larger, and nitrogen isn't susceptible to pressure change.

Mots tire places will do it for 20-25 bucks and they even give you green valve stem covers so other tire shops will know you have nitro and use it if you need more.

There isn't really an 87 octane program for the new trucks yet. I'm going to be at SCT on Friday to work on making one.

What JennD said.

What Woppy said.

Tune ups. Good maintenance keeps your fuel consumption down and keeps the trac going strong.

2000rpm or there about...Only sure way to get better MPG. But when you put your foot in it...Who's counting MPG? Cheap entertainment!!!

Best mod for the money to improve mpg is an exhaust system from Gibson or someone like that. But nothing makes a big difference. I bought a cheap Neon beater last year to use for work, but then too all the money I spent on repairs would've bought a lot of gas.
